Pindaya is about 45 kilometres (28 miles) from Kalaw.
Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenes of countryside along the
road from Kalaw to Pindaya.
Though Pindaya is a small quiet town famous for its caves,
there are other places to see around Pindaya including
Poketaloke lake, Singaung Monastery, Danu village and temples
and pagodas in the area. Some visitors enjoy
shopping souvenirs and locally available fresh vegetables at
farmers' markets which are opened every five days.
Pindaya cave is 490 feet long which is believed to have existed
for 200 million years. Located at 5,000 feet above sea level,
these limestone caves have been filled with thousands of Buddha
images by worshippers from all over the country. Some images are
as old
as a
couple of centuries where visitors can see various
handmadedesigns and styles of stone and wood carvings of
different eras.
There is a maze inside this cave and the highest point of the
maze is a good spot for photo-taking. There are many big banyan
trees lined up at the base of the Pindaya hill, and the pagoda
festival is held at this ground every January. Hgnatpyawtaw, a
Danu village, is at the end of these trees and it is a must-see
for visitors. Villagers earn their living by making mulberry
papers and traditional umbrellas and visitors can witness their
daily lives and their handicraft skills as they tour around the
village.
Singaung Monastery is a hundred year old teak monastery also
located at the base of the Pindaya hill. There is a Buddha image
made of lacquered bamboo at this monastery.
Ponetaloke Lake is one of the attractions within Pindaya.
We hope you would have a chance to
visit the beautiful Pindaya and stop by at our Green Tea
